Assent believes that relationships are key to success. We strive to understand our clients’ businesses and adapt the insurance program as both the business and the macroeconomy evolve. We recognize that another major role we play is ensuring the successful finalization of claims. Therefore, we focus on guiding our clients through the claims process and seeing the claim through with the insurer, no matter how long it takes or the hurdles we face.
ASSENT'S STORY
Assent has been operating for over 30 years in the Australian insurance market. Since 2014, Nathan Miller has been the Managing Director of the company, and using his 20 years of insurance underwriting experience, he took on the mission of building an insurance broking powerhouse.

Meet the Team

Nathan Miller
Managing Director

Nathan is the Managing Director of the group which incorporates the wholly-owned subsidiaries having the following core activities:
- Insurance Broking & Risk Management
- Insurance Underwriting
- Fundings Management, and
- Fire Risk Protection
He is the Responsible Manager under three AFSL licenses and is responsible for the management of the group.
Specifically, Nathan has been an insurance broker since 2006, has extensive experience with a broad range of industries, the risks inherent, policies applicable, and the types of claims made.
Nathan specializes in Directors & Officers Liability including Management Liability, General Liability, Contracts, Employment Practices Liability, Property and WA Workers’ Compensation.
Furthermore, his law studies provide Nathan the ability to provide insight into the company, contractual, property, tax (both domestic & foreign), employment, consumer protection, intellectual property, international business, and the tort of negligence laws.

Melissa Burbery
CEO
Dip F.S (Ins Brok) (Undergraduate)
Melissa is responsible for the management and processing of bulk renewals for Assent clients via the Sunrise system involving some 8 insurance companies. She also is an assistant account executive responsible for negotiating terms, remarketing, mid-term changes, and claims handling under the supervision of the account manager.
Melissa has had a career in mining and energy company finance and administration prior to joining the insurance industry in 2009. She is from an insurance family having grown up knowing the industry. Starting from reception and learning about customer service, training systems, and broking from the ground up, she brings to the company eight years’ experience in both the administration underwriting and assistant broking roles.
Melissa is a role model for “working from home” Mums and is supported by Assent’s work balance and diversity policy. Her broad experience complements Assent’s range of clients in different industries.

Wayne Miller
Executive Chairman

Wayne is the Executive Chairman of the group responsible for overseeing all the brokers, coy administration, and the achievement of key milestones.
Due to Wayne’s extensive experience across a broad range of clients, markets, industry roles, and businesses he is consulted on all major client accounts ensuring a high standard of work, compliance, and further insight into specific risks.
Wayne has been in the insurance industry since 1982 working at both global insurance and broking companies. Wayne was the Managing Director of a listed insurance brokerage and has expertise in niche areas including mining, oil & gas, corporate governance, and strategic positioning.
Specific areas of insurance Wayne specializes in includes Directors & Officers Liability, ISR, WA Workers’ Compensation, Credit Risk, Advanced Contract Works Consequential Loss, Mutual Discretionary Funds, and Captive Insurance Companies.

Rodney Whitbread
Chief Financial Officer
Chartered Tax Accountant
Rodney is responsible for the financial management and other administrative duties of Assent which includes budgeting, banking, auditing, training and education.
Rodney has over 48 years in the corporate financial management of companies in the insurance, oil & gas, law and construction industries.
He is responsible for the financial management and other administrative duties of Assent which includes budgeting, banking, auditing, training and education.
Through his career he has been a part of senior management of companies in a range of industries not only involved in financial management but also HR, marketing, IT and regulation & compliance.
Rodney brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Assent, he displays a high level of integrity and pride in his work, sets a great example and is a key executive officer of the company.

Emilio Paterniti
Group Accountant
Fellow CPA, Chartered Tax Accountant, Member of the Tax Board
Mil is responsible for the corporate accounting requirements of Assent. He is responsible for effective tax planning, dealing with regulatory bodies including the ATO & ASIC and ensuring compliance with all taxation laws, rules and regulations.
Mil has over 50 years accounting experience working with clients from a range of different industries including financial services, medical services, construction, retail, commercial, mining, oil and gas. His experience includes working at the ATO and for major companies including Hamersley Iron and Arthur Anderson.
Mil has operated his own accounting practice since 1985 and some of his client relationships span the same length of time.

Claudine Bea Baguilod
Account Executive
Tier 2 (General Insurance)
Claudine joined Assent in June 2019 as an SME and Domestic Account Executive.
Prior to starting her insurance broking career Claudine was a prominent underwriter and claims person at Chubb Insurance Australia.
Starting her career in 2008 Claudine worked her way up from claims into underwriting Property, Casualty, Financial Lines and Marine risks in the APAC, NZ and Singapore regions.
Claudine is individually responsible for over 200 clients at Assent and provides support for the MD and CEO on key accounts.
